Discovering is Problem Solving

Room 5 Love Discovery Time!

Blake decided to make a telephone. He and Rangi had to figure out when to put the cup to their ears and when to speak into the cup.

Annabel, Sabine, Tegan, Charlotte and Ron were deciding how to create a minibeast using these different materials. They used pegs, cups, pipe cleaners and crepe paper to make bees and butterflies.

Matthew created some laser googles (which were apparently antiques;)

At Discovery Time we learn to solve problems with each other (taking turns, using I statements and negotiating), and we learn to solve problems that come from creating and making. (How will I connect this? How can I build it higher without it crashing down?)

Ask us what did at Discovery Time on a Wednesday!

Room 2 and the 100th Day of School

Recently the Juniors celebrated 100 days at school. We are now all 100 days smarter!
The day was filled with lots of fun activities including sorting 100 small things into groups.

These photos are of Room 2 children sorting their 100 things into groups that have the same number of things in each group. We all ate lots of delicious food at our shared lunch too. The day ended with a Junior disco in the hall.

Room 3 has had a busy first term at school. On the 14th of June we visited Motat. We went bumpity bump on the tram and the driver moved to the other end of the tram to bring us back.

On Thursday lots of parents came to our classroom.
We made some flax headbands and ties.

P.E with Room 11

We have had a very busy first week back to term 2!

On Wednesday morning we had 'Footsteps', we learned some hip-hop moves from Kate, she was the dance teacher. We danced to the song 'Eye of the Tiger' and it was so loud and fast! Some of the moves we did were punching, kicking and tiger claws. We can't wait to go back!!

On Friday morning after fruit break, we got to enjoy some games with the team at Kelly Sports. We learned to play dodgeball and rippa octopus. We were split into teams and got 10 minutes to play each game. We were doing lots of running and shielding... Miss Sheppard got some awesome action shots!

Science Detectives and Creative Thinkers in Room 12

In Room 12, we have been very busy being science detectives and using our Makers Space time to create dinosaurs, space stations and things we love about Autumn.

Science Detectives
We have been learning about changes of state by mixing substances. Two of our experiments involved vinegar and baking soda. When we mixed them together we made balloons blow up and we made a rainbow.

Yesterday in the science area Room 12 did science. We mixed vinegar and baking soda. We put vinegar in a bottle and baking soda in a balloon. We stuck the balloon on the bottle and mixed it in the bottle. Then it exploded. The vinegar made carbon dioxide. By Jian

Room 5's Maths Problem Solving!

Matthew chose to draw a picture to solve the problem.

Mum gave me 3 apples and Dad gave me 2 more. How many apples do I have altogether?

Room 5 have been learning about problem solving. We learned that when we come across a problem we need to read it, look for key words and then plan a way to solve it. We talked about different ways we could do this and that which ever way we chose, all ways were right!
Finn used materials to solve the problem.
Pelagia chose to draw the apples to solve the problem.
