What's New in Room 9?

What's New in Room 9?

Room 9 were very proud of our efforts this week when our class was called out in Assembly for being the best junior class and best overall class at putting our rubbish into the right bins. We also had the least rubbish overall!

Amy cam to help us to make spiders out of pinecones and pipe cleaners! We had to choose eight eyes and tie on some elastic to make it jump!

Spiders can pounce for their prey to eat for their dinner.  Spiders belong to the Arachnid family.  They are very hairy.
Bonnie

How to make a spider:
You get a pinecone, some eyes and some pipe cleaners and string.  My spider is scary and creepy and has lots of legs.  My spider is named Creepy Crawler.

Busy times in Room 11

Our term is racing by and we are looking forward to our Easter Break. We have been busy with lots of different activities in Room 11 over the last few weeks.

As part of our topic we went into the "Greenhithe Jungle" to hunt for minibeasts. Here are some writing samples about our adventure:

Room 11 went to the jungle on Wednesday and all 20 came out. We were entomologists because we were finding minibeasts.
Kaito

On Wednesday I went in a jungle. I went with Room 11. I went because we were collecting minibeasts. I found ants. I found two ladybirds. I was excited.
Lucy

First I ran around the path. Then I walked slowly. Then I found a wood louse. I was excited but before I could get everyone he scattered away.
Luke

Room 11 went to the jungle on Wednesday. We looked for minibeasts and insects. We did it because we are entomologists.

Poppy

Thank you Constable Bluemel for coming to our school and teaching us how to be safe on our scooters. Here are some more writing samples:

Today Room 11 went down to scooter safety. We learned how to do the emergency stop. You have to jump off your scooter and take a few steps when you're holding it. Next it poured down with rain. We had to run to shelter.
Hayden

I like scootering. Oh it started to rain. We were on the bottom court. We had to move quickly.
Esther

Our "Mathletics Wall of Fame" is looking a bit empty. Remember to keep practising your Mathletics every night and when you earn a silver or gold certificate it can go up on our classroom wall. Congratulations to Sabrina and Luke who have both earned silver certificates this year. Keep up the great learning!

Lastly, we are on the look out for the Easter Bunny to perhaps put a treat into our Easter baskets. If you see him please send him to Room 11.

Happy Easter to everyone from Room 11.

The Places Room 29 Have Been This Term!

This term the Junior School have been looking at minibeasts!

Room 29 is full of budding entomologists!
We are always keeping our eyes peeled for different insects in our school.

Our discovery time has been all about bugs! We have discovered so many new facts already.
Take a look at what we have been exploring.

We have been using magnifying glasses to take a closer look at amazing minibeasts. We have been looking at their head, thorax and abdomen up close! Insects all have 6 legs.
Cael, Will, Delton, and Islay used Lego to make their own insects.

Lawson, Rico, Milla and Portia have been using play dough to make model insects.

We have learned that some insects, like the bee, use special ways to send messages to each other.

Horton reading group read all about how bees dance to tell one another where great places to find nectar are. They wiggle and move their abdomens in different ways to send different messages. Imagine if we had to dance to tell people our ideas!

Bees dance the round dance when food is within 25 metres of the hive.

Room 11's Learning

Room 11's Learning

Writing

In Room 11, they have learnt to put feelings into their writing. One of the kids said: "Some people do lots of feelings in their writing, and some don't." They add personal experiences into their writing.

Maths

Room 11 practice Maths by answering Maths sheets. They enjoy addition more than subtraction. Room 11 is starting to learn how to count all the way up to 20.

Reading

Room 11 read books with their teacher, Mrs Fitzgerald. They fill out worksheets based on what books they're reading. " I like reading with the teacher," one of the children said.

Handwriting

For Handwriting, Room 11 practice writing the alphabet, and write numbers. " I like writing my letters," a boy said. They love writing their numbers.

Art

Room 11 draw windy days in their art. They are learning about painting and self portraits. They use cold colors for their windy days, and hot colors for the sun. Art was their favorite subject!

ROOM 9

Room 9's learning.

Room 9 say ' Come and Climb the learning tree with me!' that's their class metaphor!

For Writing each day Rm 9 draw pictures and describe and write about their pictures. They also write a recount about what they did on the weekend or the holidays.

Recently, they all wrote 'I Am A Smarty Pants Because...' and they all finished the sentence.

For Reading each day, they sit down at their tables and pick a book from their reading group box or from their class library, or they practice reading their group book plays.

For Art they tried to mimic a picture of The Mona Lisa. Most kids did a picture of The Mona Lisa and they did a very good. They also drew hands to go on the tree.

For Fitness they usually run around the field after they've done Jump Jam. Jump Jam is where they do fun activities and dances in the morning. For running they train for cross country.

For Maths they count to ten, play with counters and maths games and find compliments to 20.
They like to play with maths rockets and beans to help them with hard problems.

Golden Time is a special time where they get to draw and read their favourite book or a book of their choice.

This week they are learning to log onto computers. Every week they learn something new as a class and at the end of the week they all know how to do their class task.

ROOM 2

In Room 2 they are WILD about learning. That's their class metaphor. We asked some of the students what they do in class.

They plan their writing by drawing pictures in their writing books and share their piece of writing with their classmates when they're done.

They often write a recount about what they did the day before. Just like a reflection on their day. When they get back from school trips they write a recount about where they went and about what they learnt.

For Maths they write number equations and answer them. They use pipes and counters to solve their maths problems. They also use jars with a number on them like 100's 10's 1's to help them with hard maths problems.

For their recent Art unit they coloured in animals from the jungle and glued their own faces on a zoo keeper picture. They made a flower and they glued their faces on it. The students also created self portraits of themselves. They also cut out pictures and tried to figure out if they were new or old.

They're very enthusiastic about their learning and we can't wait to visit them again.
