International Students!

Room 5 has had fun with our International Students! Monica, Rita and Joanna have all learnt so much and shared their own culture with us too.

We all enjoyed painting tiles with Paint The Earth. We painted Siapo or Korus. We were all sad to say goodbye to Monica!

News from Room One

Here is our news from Room One this week

Paint the Earth

The children painted ceramic tiles and learned about the porous nature of the medium and they are looking forward to seeing how the colours will become much brighter after they have been fired in the kiln. They will adorn the area outside our new block.

What do the children do at playtime?

I took my camera out with me on playground duty and snapped some pictures of the children playing.

Here is Luke in goal.

Rebecca is practicing her balancing skills.

Pania opened a shop.
Here are her customers.

I did ask about what Jian and John were busy doing but I'm still not sure......

Room 11 went to Paint the Earth!

The junior school was lucky enough to have Paint the Earth come and visit them at school.
We designed a tile with something kiwiana on it, we learnt that kiwiana can mean something that is unique to New Zealand.
We painted our tiles in a process, the process went like this:
1.       We received our tiles we then went and sketched our picture onto it
2.       Once our sketch was finished we then painted the main picture/ object
3.       We then painted the background
4.       After we finished painting we had to line up behind a teacher who outlined our tiles in black paint
5.       We then put our creations on the stage for them to go into a super hot oven. We learnt that this oven is called a kiln and can get as hot up to 1000 degrees!

Here is some pictures showing us working on our designs
