Term 2 in Room 11

Term 2 in Room 11.

In Room 11 we have been working hard to add more detail to our writing. We are including our feelings in our writing to make it interesting for the reader. Here are some examples of our writing about the recent cross-country:

Yesterday we went to cross-country. At the start I felt happy because my Dad and Nana and Poppa were there. When I got to the middle I was exhausted. When I got to the end I was proud.
Connor

Yesterday we went to cross-country. I felt scared at the start. I ran my best. I fell over but I got up and ran. At the end I was puffed.

Leo

At the start of cross-country I felt angry because I didn't want to race. At the middle of the race I was exhausted. At the end of the race I felt hot and sweaty and tired and happy because the race was over.

Wow - our "Mathletics Wall of Fame" is certainly looking a lot fuller than it was last term! Keep up the great learning.

Our science afternoon last Friday was a great opportunity to share what we have learned as scientists this term. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and siblings who were able to come and participate with us.

What's coming up in Room 11?
  • We are helping to lead the whole school assembly this Friday at 11.40am.
  • Next week is 'Mo Willem' week - lots of books about Piggie, Gerald and the Pigeon!
  • We will be joining with the other Year 1 classes to share the dancing we have been doing this term on Tuesday 28th June at 2.15pm in the hall.

Cross Country

In week 5 we had our Junior School cross country. We trained very hard and it really paid off as we all did so well! We were so lucky to have lots of parents came along to cheer us on too! Thank you!

Here are just a few photos from the day.
If you have any great snaps of the day please feel free to email them through to your class teacher.

Fun in Room 2

Room 2 have been very busy. We have been talking about being scientists and how things change.
We made some yummy chocolates for Mothers day.

We decided we wanted to make some butter too.
The children wanted to make more so we made some popcorn. They loved watching how it was made.

We are learning about Instructional writing and the children are enjoying it.

Room 27

This term the artists in Room 27 enjoyed creating a self-portrait. They learnt how to mix hot and cold colours to create new colours for the background. Then worked out where to draw their eyes, nose and mouth on their faces.

This week we have been focusing on the area of a space. We spoke about the many different ways to find out the area. It was great to see what objects the children chose around the class to measure the area of their hands

We also had the ladies from Footsteps come to show us some dance moves. Our dance was called Best Years. It was great to see all the students get involved and do such an amazing job. Well done everyone!

Our Minibeast Adventures in Room 26

Room 26 was very busy last term learning about Minibeasts. Have a look at the photos of our Minibeast hunt in the Nature Garden.

We recorded all the different Minibeasts we found and then sorted them into groups.

In these pictures our butterfly had just hatched
from the chrysalis so we carefully took it up
to the Butterfly Garden and watched it fly away.

We loved learning about all the different insects, spiders, slugs and snails.

What's New in Room 9?

What's New in Room 9?

Room 9 were very proud of our efforts this week when our class was called out in Assembly for being the best junior class and best overall class at putting our rubbish into the right bins. We also had the least rubbish overall!

Amy cam to help us to make spiders out of pinecones and pipe cleaners! We had to choose eight eyes and tie on some elastic to make it jump!

Spiders can pounce for their prey to eat for their dinner.  Spiders belong to the Arachnid family.  They are very hairy.
Bonnie

How to make a spider:
You get a pinecone, some eyes and some pipe cleaners and string.  My spider is scary and creepy and has lots of legs.  My spider is named Creepy Crawler.

Busy times in Room 11

Our term is racing by and we are looking forward to our Easter Break. We have been busy with lots of different activities in Room 11 over the last few weeks.

As part of our topic we went into the "Greenhithe Jungle" to hunt for minibeasts. Here are some writing samples about our adventure:

Room 11 went to the jungle on Wednesday and all 20 came out. We were entomologists because we were finding minibeasts.
Kaito

On Wednesday I went in a jungle. I went with Room 11. I went because we were collecting minibeasts. I found ants. I found two ladybirds. I was excited.
Lucy

First I ran around the path. Then I walked slowly. Then I found a wood louse. I was excited but before I could get everyone he scattered away.
Luke

Room 11 went to the jungle on Wednesday. We looked for minibeasts and insects. We did it because we are entomologists.

Poppy

Thank you Constable Bluemel for coming to our school and teaching us how to be safe on our scooters. Here are some more writing samples:

Today Room 11 went down to scooter safety. We learned how to do the emergency stop. You have to jump off your scooter and take a few steps when you're holding it. Next it poured down with rain. We had to run to shelter.
Hayden

I like scootering. Oh it started to rain. We were on the bottom court. We had to move quickly.
Esther

Our "Mathletics Wall of Fame" is looking a bit empty. Remember to keep practising your Mathletics every night and when you earn a silver or gold certificate it can go up on our classroom wall. Congratulations to Sabrina and Luke who have both earned silver certificates this year. Keep up the great learning!

Lastly, we are on the look out for the Easter Bunny to perhaps put a treat into our Easter baskets. If you see him please send him to Room 11.

Happy Easter to everyone from Room 11.
